On the evening of Friday, June 1, the 2018 graduates of Boyle County High School celebrated their Commencement in an amazing ceremony. Afterwards, as the students gathered on the front lawn to greet their proud parents, teachers and volunteers jumped into action to transform the school from Commencement mode to Project Graduation mode.

One of the deadliest times for teen drivers is graduation night. Boyle County High School started Project Graduation in order to provide graduates with a night of fantastic fun and celebration while also allowing parents to rest easy knowing their children are safe.

Graduates began arriving at 11 p.m. and celebrated until 5a.m. Throughout the night, the 179 attendees were able to participate in basketball tournaments, laser tag, breakout games, and Just Dance battles. Additional activities included inflatables from Party On Air, a painting station with supplies donated by DecoArt, and a photo booth complete with a wide selection of goofy props. Students were fed all night long with donated food from all over Danville and burgers flipped by parent volunteers. To end the night, everyone gathered in the cafeteria for prize giveaways. Because of a record-high amount of money raised, each attendee was able to receive a great prize from the Donations/Prizes Committee.

BCHS’s Senior Coordinator Susan Michael began planning Project Graduation in late January with a team of over 80 parent volunteers. Four committees were formed, and each one had a separate task. In the end, the Food, Security, Donation/Prizes, and Entertainment Committees came together to create a safe, fun-filled night.

As one of the grateful graduates, I was amazed by the vast amount of hard work Mrs. Michael, the teachers, and the parent volunteers put in to creating such an amazing night. While I was jumping on one of the inflatables in the gym, I was overwhelmed by the thought that just a few hours before, I had been standing in the same gym set up for Commencement. I have never been one to pull all-nighters, but at Project Graduation, I didn’t have one ounce of trouble staying awake. I had a blast bouncing around and dancing the night away with my classmates. I came home from the night with sleepy eyes, a new Keurig, and a heart full of gratitude. Project Graduation will definitely be a night I will never forget. To all of the parents, teachers, and classmates that helped make the night so wonderful, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
