Pollinator week
Governor Matt Bevin declared June 17-June 23 Pollinator Week in Kentucky. From left, Linda Porter, Kentucky State Apiarist Tammy Horn Potter and Joanna Kirby celebrated Pollinator Week in Lexington at the summer meeting of the Pollinator Protection Plan Partnership. Kirby is Kentucky state park chairperson and Porter is butterfly and pollinator chairperson with the Garden Club of Kentucky. Both are members of the Garden Club of Danville and have assisted with the development of many monarch waystations and pollinator gardens throughout Boyle County and the state. The insects that pollinate plants are in decline worldwide. Approximately 80 percent of flowering plants on earth require pollinators for their survival. Garden clubs all over America have been instrumental in promoting their protection.
