1941-2018
Hershel E. Oakes, age 76, of Toombs Hollow Road in McKinney, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at his residence. Born Wednesday, December 17, 1941 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William Gaither & Vera Mae Bryant Oakes. Hershel was a U.S. Army Veteran, who served in the Vietnam era. He worked for BF Goodrich, Millis Truck Driving Company, and was a farmer. In his spare time, he enjoyed wagon riding, loved horses, and enjoyed working with his portable sawmill.
Hershel leaves behind three daughters, Kim Dailey (Steve) of Richmond, Indiana, Lisa Addison (Eric) of Cambridge City, Indiana, and Jill Oakes of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandsons, Billy Hall (Abbey) of Carmel, Indiana, Jake Hall of Hagerstown, Indiana, and Nathan Addison of Cambridge City; one great-grandson, Elliott Hall of Carmel; and one brother, James A. Oakes (Thelma) of Richmond, Indiana.
In addition to his parents, Hershel was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Hilderbrand. A Funeral Service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Fox & Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Lynville Hatter officiating the service. Billy Hall, Jake Hall, Steve Dailey, Eric Addison, Edward Cain, Wayne Pullum, and Travis Pullum will serve as Active Pallbearers. Burial will follow in McKinney Cemetery with Full Military Honors performed by Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post #18. The Visitation will be held 1PM-3PM Thursday at the funeral home.
