Pioneer Playhouse offers indoor play Wednesday

Pioneer Playhouse will be offering an indoor performance  of “Unnecessary Farce” 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.  Managing Director Heather Henson says a sponsor asked they try one night inside during the regular season. “We understand that some of our patrons would like to see a show without negotiating the stairs, and also be sure that the weather doesn’t interfere, so we’re trying it on this coming Wednesday.”

“Unnecessary Farce” is a comedy about two overeager cops who try to run a sting operation on a crooked mayor.  It runs through Saturday, Aug. 4.  Other shows will be outside as usual, weather permitting. Family Services releases quarterly report

Family Services Association of Boyle County Inc. recently released its quarterly report. From January through June, 379 total individuals were served through direct financial assistance; of those, 138 were children 17 and under; 77 were seniors 55 and over; 164 are “other” ages. Of those who received direct financial assistance, 91 percent did not return.

Total individuals served by referrals and client initiatives to other agencies were 43; of those, 22 were children 17 and under; 4 were seniors 55 and older; 17 were “other” ages. Ninety-four percent of the individuals receiving referrals and client initiatives to other agencies did not receive financial assistance.

Sign improvements planned in Boyle

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced plans to make improvements to signage along two highways in Boyle County and one in Mercer County.

The Boyle improvements will occur along Ky. 34 from U.S. 68 to the Boyle-Garrard county line; and along Ky. 52 from U.S. 150 to the Boyle-Garrard county line. The Mercer improvements will occur along U.S. 68 from the Boyle-Mercer county line to the Jessamine-Mercer county line.

The improvements are part of a larger signage improvement project affecting Anderson, Boyle, Clark, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Scott and Woodford counties. Operations will begin in Anderson County on Monday and progress through the remaining counties.

There may be times when alternating lane closures are in place, or there may be brief delays. The project will be complete in 90 days or less. All work is subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
