Martha Valencia received the Pam Powell Endowed Scholarship for a teacher working toward her master’s degree in education. The scholarship was established by Patti

Powell and her father, Stuart Powell. The Madison County Retired Teacher’s Association of Madison County, in which Pam Powell was active, matched the funding. Valencia, along with teaching and studying at EKU, coordinates several bilingual programs through the public library and elementary schools in Madison County. Valencia was presented a check by Steve Gillespie, president of the MCRTA at the group’s summer picnic.
