Smiley for Danville school board

Dear Editor,
The Danville Independent School District (DISD) has always been an important part of my life, so much so that my children now attend the DISD and I convinced my wife that teaching there would be great!
We have amazing teachers, administrators and students in our system, but one thing often overlooked is the members of the school board. Any successful school system will have a competent and functioning school board, comprised ideally of people with high moral standards, real world experiences in business or education and the ability to remain impartial.
Paul Smiley fits every description of a great candidate for a school board position. Paul has decades of experience in the field of education, from coaching and teaching at the Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) and substitute teaching and bus driving for the Danville Schools. His passion for education has been passed on to his three children who are all educators, one in elementary education and two at the college level.
Paul has also been a Danville City Commissioner, where he never missed any meetings and always came prepared to ask and answer questions. He also served on various committees and boards within the City of Danville.
“Smiley,” as he’s affectionately known by many, brings 13 years of experience as a past member of the Danville Schools Board of Education. Right now, more than any time in my lifetime, we need this experience back on our school board.
I urge you to vote for Paul Smiley for the Danville Board of Education on Nov. 2.
