Pioneer Playhouse Holds Halloween Party Fundraiser

Patrons of Pioneer Playhouse, Kentucky’s Oldest Outdoor Theatre, are accustomed to coming out to the 69 year-old landmark during the summer months to watch actors flit across the stage, dressed in sometimes period, sometimes contemporary costumes. On Oct. 27, however, it will be the patrons themselves who will have the opportunity to come dressed as someone or something else for a night of music and dancing, and a chance to win the Pioneer Playhouse Costume Contest and a patron’s pass to the 2019 season.

“In the past we’ve held a Mardi Gras Valentine’s Bash as a fundraiser,” says Robby Henson, artistic director of Pioneer Playhouse. “But the weather is always a bit iffy in February. We’d always talked about having a Halloween event, and so this year we decided to go ahead and do it.”
The Pioneer Playhouse Halloween Party Fundraiser will be held in the Indoor Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 8 -11 p.m. PowerPlay, a popular local band playing funk and rock from the 70s and 80s will be the entertainment for the night.
“We had PowerPlay for our opening night last summer, and it was a huge hit,” says Heather Henson, managing director of the Playhouse. “People loved dancing to their music – songs from the band, Chicago, and other funk and rock tunes from that era. Of course we may be biased about the band because one of the members is our brother, Eben, and many of the bandmates are guys we’ve known since high school when they first got together to play. But the bottom line is, PowerPlay is perfect for getting your groove on.”
Tickets for the Pioneer Playhouse Halloween Party are $25 per person. The price includes two free specialty drinks from the bar and light snacks. The cash/credit bar will serve a selection of beer, wine and spirits to those 21 years and older.
“We wanted this to be affordable for people because we’d really like a crowd to come out and have fun at the Playhouse sometime other than during the summer months,” says Robby Henson. “But we also want to raise a little money for our upcoming 70th season under the stars. The year has not been kind to arts organizations like ours, and we can always use a helping hand from our friends to keep Pioneer Playhouse alive and kicking.”
“Halloween is such a great time of year – the only time grown-ups feel like they can dress up in silly or scary costumes,” says Heather Henson. “The Indoor Theatre will be decorated for the occasion, and I’m looking forward to seeing lots of ghosts and ghouls, witches and warlocks, Draculas and Frankensteins, and everything in between! And of course if you don’t want to dress up, that’s fine too. Just come as you are – but definitely wear your dancing shoes!”
The Pioneer Playhouse Halloween Party Fundraiser will be held at the Indoor Theatre on the Pioneer playhouse grounds, which are located at 840 Stanford Road, Danville. Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased by calling the box office or going online. Box office: (859) 236-2747; online: www.pioneerplayhouse.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, but patrons are encouraged to buy in advance so that Pioneer Playhouse can plan accordingly.
