Name to be added to Kentucky Vietnam memorial

Boyle county native Sgt. Edward D. Bennett will have his name engraved during a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial located at 365 Vernon Cooper Lane, overlooking the state capital in Frankfort. Nancy Ketelhohn, Regent of St. Asaph NSDAR said all who are interested are welcome to attend.

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring free health screenings at the Mercer County Health Department. The screenings will be offered 9-11 a.m. Nov. 7. Offered screenings are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, stroke risk and take-home colorectal cancer screening kits (over age 50). After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional.

Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel. This gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water.

Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, call (859) 734-4522. The screenings are open to the public for anyone 18 years and older.

Meetings

Danville City Commission — 5:30 p.m. Monday in city hall meeting room. Agenda includes: proclamations for Alzheimer’s awareness, domestic violence awareness month; second reading of Planning & Zoning map amendment; KIA grant application approval; chemical bid award; and fire grant application approval.

Boyle County Extension Council special called business meeting — 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at the Boyle County Extension Office. The agenda includes voting on nominating members to the district board.

Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau — 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at the McKinney Conference Center.

Boyle County Fiscal Court — 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 i room 106 at the courthouse. Items on the agenda include: Brass Band presentation by Bill Bandy and Bruce Richardson; CASA of the Bluegrass by Laura Guerrant; euthanasia training at the animal shelter; contract and extension of EMA; consider hire for solid waste coordinator; and  compensatory agreement.

Animal Control Committee — immediately following the 10 a.m. Boyle County Fiscal Court meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in room 106 at the courthouse.

Boyle County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP)  8:30 a.m. Friday Oct. 26, in the large conference room of the Boyle County Extension Office, 99 Corporate Drive (off of Lebanon Road). All interested persons are invited to attend ASAP meetings.
