DCA to have celebration night
The annual Danville Christian Academy celebration and fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 in its nearly completed gymnasium named, the Warrior Complex. Former University of Kentucky basketball star and motivational speaker Cameron Mills will be guest speaker and master of ceremonies. Tickets are $25 per couple and are available the DCA office. A meal of barbecue will be served and there will be a silent and live auctions. Dress is casual. Money raised at the event will go toward the completion of the gym and any students’ needs during the rest of the school year.
DCA broke ground for its Academy Warrior Complex last spring to better serve the students’ health and education. The Warrior Complex will be completed in two phases. The first phase of this building project includes construction of the gymnasium, locker rooms, exercise/weight room and office spaces. The foundation and structure are finished and interior work will soon begin.
Phase two will add a cafeteria, production stage, art studio and music room. DCA plans to make this space available to the Danville community. The goal is to have the gym completed by the start of the 2019-2020 school year.
AAUW benefit Nov. 9
AAUW Bluegrass Central Branch hosts Nov. 9 evening of wine and chocolate
The third annual Phenomenal AAUW Wine Tasting Event will be Friday, Nov. 9, at the Capital Cellars, 227 W. Broadway, Frankfort.
Scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., this year’s event features chocolate and wine pairings. Tickets are $10 each with proceeds benefiting AAUW Bluegrass Branch programs and scholarships. Participants must be 21 years old to attend.
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls.
Veteran reception Nov. 13
Danville High School’s Junior State of America group invites any and all veterans to a breakfast reception with an assembly in Gravely Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 8:30 a.m. The reception is being held to honor and recognize those who have served our country.
CPR training offered
McDowell Wellness Center is offering Red Cross CPR training from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m Thursday, Nov. 8. in the Community Education Room. The cost of the training is $70. For more information or to register, call (859) 936-7200.
