The second annual Wilderness Trail Charity Chili Cook-off is in the books and what an incredible day of food, fun and fellowship. Fourteen fabulous chili cooks competed for first, second and third place trophies and cash prizes voted on by celebrity judges Larry Vaught, Cameron Mills, Chuck Smith and from Kentucky Taste Buds, Leigh Roach and Tamara Schneider. Ticket patrons were invited to sample from each of the chili competitors and vote on the People’s Choice Award.
First place went to Randy Dean; second place to Harvey’s; third place to Cash Express; and the Bluebird Café won the People’s Choice Award.
The event also included a variety of great local vendors to browse and shop, lots of children’s activities, a live remote by Tim Estes, DJ EZE and a bit of tricky weather with a cold mist in the morning and gusty winds in the afternoon.
“The Kiwanis Club of Danville would like thank Wilderness Trail Distillery for hosting this wonderful community event and all the sponsors, vendors, cooks, and ticket patrons who have helped to make this Christmas holiday much brighter for kids and seniors sponsored through the club’s programs,” said Robert Cunningham, club president.
He added ”Since 1927, the Danville Kiwanis Club has sponsored children in the community with a new coat, clothing, shoes, small toys, a stocking and a party with lunch, a reading of the Nativity and a visit from Santa. Our club will serve children this Christmas referred by Danville and Boyle County Schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Salvation Army, Sunrise Children’s Services and Wilderness Trace Child Development Center. A group of seniors referred by the Danville-Boyle County Senior Citizens Center will also be treated to a stocking filled with gift items and gift cards to ensure food security for the holidays and a luncheon that includes a visit from Santa. The members of our service club feel so incredibly blessed to receive such an outpouring of support from our community for these programs.”
