The event is open to all freshmen, sophomores and juniors, and will be led by GSA faculty members and/or guest artists. Parents, teachers, counselors and private instructors are also encouraged to attend to learn more about the program.

The GSA prep workshop will focus on providing feedback to students on their Preliminary Round Application audition/portfolio materials. Students spend a morning in a group led by a teaching artist, receiving feedback on their prepared materials and observing while other students receive feedback. Students are encouraged to stay for an info session later in the day. The info session is free and open to the public.

Each summer, The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) hosts more than 250 talented high-school students from every region of the commonwealth for a three-week, tuition-free immersive residential program on a college campus. During this program, student artists engage in studies across nine disciplines: architecture and design; creative writing; dance; drama; film and photography; instrumental music; musical theatre; visual art; and vocal music.

To assist students in preparing their GSA application process, the program hosts info sessions and prep workshops across the state. Open to high-school teachers, art advocates, students and their families, these events will provide information and tips on the application process, as well as feedback on students’ audition/portfolio materials.

While info sessions are free and open to the public, GSA prep workshops are limited in space and students must pre-register to attend at www.kentuckycentergsa.org. There is a prep workshop registration fee of $10 and an application fee of $30 for the GSA summer program, both of which are waived for students on free or reduced lunch.

Teachers, counselors and private instructors are also encouraged to join a session or workshop to learn more about the program (participants are eligible for EILA hours/credit for attending). There is no fee for them to attend.

Students are also encouraged to apply to the summer program by Jan. 11 at www.kentuckycentergsa.org. The 2019 GSA Summer Program will take place June 23-July 13, 2019.
