Veterans Appreciation Day Monday

The 11th annual Veterans Appreciation Day will be held Monday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Danville National Guard Armory to honor all veterans from Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln and Mercer counties. Fish and barbecue dinners will be served and there will be drawings for door prizes. A shuttle bus will be run from Danville Stadium. Hosted by Heritage Hospice, Inc. Veterans Committee. First Responders thank you luncheon

The third annual First Responders Thank You Luncheon will be held Thursday, Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Showroom, 2405 Lebanon Road. The menu includes fried chicken, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, macaroni salad, dessert and tea and lemonade.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is holding an informational session on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bluegrass Comprehensive Care Center, 650 High St. Lunch will be provided, door prizes awarded.

NAMI is looking for new members and re-organizing the NAMI Danville affiliate. If you reside in the Danville area and are suffering from mental illness or if you are a caretaker of a person suffering from mental illness, come to the Comp Care office and we will share information about NAMI and the affiliate.

Wellness Center offering challenge

An “I Survived the Holidays” challenge will be Nov. 19-Jan. 7, through McDowell Wellness Center. Participants will weigh-in at the beginning, middle and end of the challenge and must scan in at least three times each week at the center in Danville or Harrodsburg. All participants will receive emails that include weekly tips and ideas for preventing weight gain.

A special rate of $50 will be offered for non-members for the seven-week period.  Challenge T-shirts will also be available for $5 each. To register or for more information, call (859) 936-9355 or visit one of our locations.

Boyle County Fiscal Court — 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Boyle County Courthouse. Items on the agenda include: presentations from Kentucky Farm Bureau, Applicable Elected Representative, Civil Air Patrol and Arms Commission; first reading of a zone change and consider Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to amended the comprehensive plan; approve changes in animal control job description; outdoor warning siren update; award ambulance bid; Dorma contract; request bid to paint exterior of courthouse; Kentucky Historic Tax Credit Purchase agreement.

Danville City Commission — 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for regular meeting. Agenda includes: proclamation for Arbor Day; KU PLant the Plan grant application; P&Z comprehensive plan amendment and zone change recommendation; and a bunker gear bid award.

Danville City Commission — 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for a special-called meeting. Agenda includes: staff presentation on art and murals and commission discussion, and public comment.
