UPDATE 8:15 p.m.: Boyle County Emergency Management Director Mike Wilder has identified the woman killed in Monday evening’s wreck as Ella Mae Wilson, 86. Wilson lived on Forkland Road in the Junction City area, Wilder said. Wilder also corrected earlier reports on the number of vehicles involved — he said it was a two-vehicle wreck.

JUNCTION CITY — A Junction City woman was killed in a wreck at the Boyle County city’s busiest intersection Monday evening.

Ella Mae Wilson, 86, was killed after the passenger vehicle she was riding in was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Shelby Street, Boyle County Emergency Management Director Mike Wilder said.

Wilder said the driver of the passenger vehicle and a third occupant — a passenger in the back seat — were injured in the wreck and transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. One of those injured was in surgery at the hospital shortly before 8 p.m.; the other was being transferred to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center for care, he said.

Wilder said he didn’t have information on any injuries suffered by the driver of the pickup truck because the driver was not at the scene when he arrived.

A dispatcher called EMS to the intersection around 5:40 p.m. Monday, reporting a wreck with possible injuries and a possible extrication. Junction City Police, Junction City Fire, Boyle County Fire, Boyle County Sheriff’s Office, Boyle County Coroner’s Office and Boyle County Emergency Management all responded to the scene, Wilder said.

Only the southbound lane of U.S. 127 was open for traffic following the wreck, as first responders worked the scene.
