News release

The Community Arts Center has announced a call to artists for a new, juried photography exhibition: “State of Kentucky,” which will debut at the Community Arts Center in April. In the exhibit prospectus, Creative Director Brandon Long explains that the show is meant to represent the “state” of Kentucky, both in terms of place and state of being.

To be eligible for this exhibition, a photograph must have been taken within the Commonwealth of Kentucky  by a photographer currently residing in Kentucky. The entry guidelines do include college students who may be temporarily living in state while completing their degree. Both digital and traditional photography may be accepted into this exhibit.

The exhibit carries with it three cash prizes — $300 for first place, $150 for second place, and $75 for third place. The juror for State of Kentucky is Ed Lawrence of Richmond. Lawrence is retired from the Kentucky Arts Council and served as arts marketing director for most of his career. The book “Kentucky 120,” a county-by county portrait of Kentucky’s landscape was photographed, authored, designed and published by Ed Lawrence in 2014, with a second printing in 2016. His work can be found in public collections in Kentucky and privately throughout the country. He currently hosts the TV show “Art with Ed” on Frankfort Community Television.

The deadline to enter State of Kentucky is March 1. A non-refundable entry fee of $25 for 1 to 3 entries and $35 for 4 to 6 entries allows the artist to enter up to six artworks. The fee must be submitted with the completed registration form. The entry fee does not cover the costs of shipping, which are the responsibility of the artist. The full exhibit prospectus and link to online registration can be found at www.communityartscenter.net/stateofkentucky.
