Several residents at a local health care facility stirred, mixed, spread and garnished desserts during a friendly cooking competition on Thursday.
Signature’s Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation was one of about 300 of the company’s facilities nationwide to have a “Signature Chopped Day,” when residents and staff worked together to create delicious desserts that were judged on team spirit, presentation, creativity and taste.
Ginny Ratliff, quality of life director at the center, said each of the three teams had to use graham crackers, cream cheese and hot cocoa mix to compete. They could also add any other ingredients to make their recipe.
Earlier this week, team members decided on their dessert, decorated chef’s hats and prepared simple ingredients that were to be used.
On the big day, the three teams — Orange Blossoms, Off the Wall Indiana Bakers and The Best Top Blingy Clan Ever — donned their hats and gloves and began working as other residents sitting in chairs and wheelchairs lined up to watch the action.
Desserts made included cream cheesecake pops, fruit treatsa and chocolate banana split dipped pie.
