Danville-Boyle County Parks and Recreation hired John R. Bell as director. His first day on the job will be May 6.

Bell brings with him more than 28 years of experience in parks and recreation, according to a news release. He has been an athletic supervisor in Bridgeton, Missouri, the assistant director in Parks and Recreation in Maryland Heights, Missouri and most recently the director at St. Vincent Recreation Complex in St. Louis County, Missouri.

“I look forward to the new opportunities and challenges that are ahead,” Bell said.

Bell has been responsible for administration, programming, staffing, and budgeting in various Parks and Recreation jobs. He managed the development of the 2018 St. Louis County Parks Master Plan as it relates to St. Vincent. He was in the process of developing a comprehensive renovation plan for the Fountain Lakes Athletic Complex.

“We are very happy to have John as the new director of Danville-Boyle Parks and Recreation and can’t wait for him to get started. His background is second to none and his vision for the future of Parks and Rec in our community is exciting. He has extensive experience implementing master plans and growing programs in various communities, both of which were very important to our board as we went through the hiring process,” said Parks and Rec board chair Bryce Perry.

Bell is a certified Parks and Rec Professional, (CPRP); he is a Certified Pool Operator, (CPO), and Missouri Parks and Recreation Association and National Recreation and Parks Association member.

John and his wife Julie will be relocating to Danville. They have a son, Brady, who attends Murray State, and a daughter, Brittany, who attends the University of Kentucky.
