Child Abuse Prevention Month event at Toliver
Families First will be hosting a family event recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at Toliver Intermediate School. There will be free pizza, popcorn and ice cream, and many activities such as inflatables, games, prizes, yogo and more.
Families First provides the resources and services to local kids and families to prevent child abuse and child maltreatment. “With this event we want to share in a celebration of our love and passion for the kids we work with,” said Director of Families First Anna Houston.
The event at Toliver Intermediate School is part of the nationwide Pinwheels for Prevention campaign that has seen more than 4 million pinwheels distributed nationwide since 2008. Pinwheels are the national symbol of child abuse prevention and a visible reminder of the happy and healthy childhood that all children deserve.
Each year, advocates and volunteers plant pinwheel gardens in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, a national observance dedicated to recognizing the ways that people can get involved in the healthy development of children.
“Prevent Child Abuse KY has done an incredible job of partnering with community agencies like Families First Family Resource Center in taking action in support of children and families,” Houston said. “The event on April 25th is an awesome way to bring about awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month (and every month in the year), showing the community and families how we can all help great childhoods happen and get involved in preventing child abuse in the Danville community,” Houston said.
“At Prevent Child Abuse KY, we know that we can make a positive impact on the future by preventing child abuse and neglect today,” said Jill Seyfred, Executive Director at Prevent Child Abuse KY. “The best way to increase that impact is by involving the public in our work, and that is why we are working in our communities.”
