News release
“Love One Another” provides the focus of this year’s National Day of Prayer on May 2 to take place at First Baptist Church, 1570 North Danville Bypass, at 7 p.m.
Pastor Jack Timothy Mathis of First Baptist will lead the national prayer common to all events across the country with attendees joining the reading in unison. Across the nation, people will gather to pray for America on the following topics: family, education, church, media, military and government. Local voices including faith, military and governmental communities will join in support of this year’s event.
This year’s theme of “Love One Another” is based on the words of Jesus in John 13:34, which says, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.”
The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
Everyone is invited to pray wherever they are at 7 p.m. on May 2.
