Ralph “Smokey” Simpson, 79, of Lancaster, passed away Monday, April 29, 2019.

He was born in Garrard County on July 26, 1939, to the late Jess and Jewell McCulley Simpson. Smokey is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia McQuerry Simpson.

Smokey worked for over twenty years at both Malone & Hyde and as the Garrard County Coroner. He was a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church. An avid sports fan, Smokey spent many hours watching UK basketball and football, the Cleveland Browns, the Cincinnati Reds, and his grandson’s baseball teams.

Surviving is a son, Doug Simpson (Leah) of Danville; a grandchild, Jack Simpson; a brother, Johnny Simpson of Richmond; and a sister, Noretta Moss of Richmond.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Judy Simpson and Shelby Cain.

Funeral services 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2019 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Johnny Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial in Manse Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews of the Simpson and McQuerry Families. Honorary pallbearers will be James McCulley, Earl McQuerry, and Jimmy Flynn. www.spurlinfuneralhomelancaster.com
