John Wilson Curlis
1949-2019
John Wilson Curlis, 69, of Stanford passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019.
Born on October 7, 1949, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Thelma Wilson Curlis and Benjamin Curlis, Jr. He previously owned and operated Gilliland Flower Shop in Stanford and was the past chairman of the Stanford Housing Authority Board of Directors, worked at the Lincoln Co. PVA and was a retired administrative assistant with the Lincoln County Regional Jail. He was very active in the community, serving on the Lincoln Co. Fair Board for over 40 years, as president of the Lincoln Co. Historical Society, of the Lincoln Co. Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln County 4-H Council. He was a member of Stanford Baptist Church and served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Goggin Curlis.
He is survived by two daughters, Dana (Cebern) Moore and Caty Curlis; and a son, Brett (Lisa) Curlis.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stanford Baptist Church by Dr. Gregory Hancock and Bro. Justin Carter. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Farris Marcum, Chase Marcum, Jeremy Goggin, Charles Newton, Greg Padgett, Gene Ashley and Tommy Kirkpatrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Brummett, Gracie Gilbert, Linda Gooch, Eddie Carter, Jerry Wilkinson, Barbara Isham, Johnny Alcorn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hindman Settlement School and Heritage Hospice.
