The Great American Balloon Race has been rescheduled for Sunday because of bad weather that’s predicted for tonight.
Hometown Radio Network Manager Robert Wagner said gates will open at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Stuart Powell Air Field in Junction City. Balloons will begin inflating at 7 p.m.
This year’s event offers a special experience — the traditional race will not be held, but festival-goers can take a ride to tethered balloons for $10 per person, with up to four allowed in a basket per ride. Wagner said the network wanted to offer something special like a once in a lifetime experience for GABBF’s 30th anniversary celebration.
Wagner said even if festival-goers don’t want to take a ride, it will still be “just awesome” to watch the colorful, enormous balloons expand.
GABBF says it will update its website immediately to reflect any change in events so festival-goers can prepare.
