Gary Eugene Brummett

1942-2019

Gary Eugene Brummett, 76, of Stanford, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on November 7, 1942 in Stanford, Kentucky to the late Abbie Noland Brummett and Ina Mae Cottengrim Brummett.

He was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. Gary graduated from Stanford High School in 1960 and from Eastern Kentucky State College in 1964. He earned his Master’s Degree and Rank 1 Certification from Eastern Kentucky University. He began his teaching career in 1964 in Jefferson County, Kentucky at Watson Lane Elementary School. In 1968, he accepted a position at Edna L. Toliver Elementary School in Danville, Kentucky and taught there until he retired in 1994. Gary also served as a substitute teacher in Lincoln County for several years.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Barbara Worley Brummett; three nephews, Christopher Noland Brummett, Samuel Scott Brummett (Beth) and Jeffery Coyle Brummett; five great-nephews, Gentry, Cooper, Baker, Chase and Banks; and two great nieces, Brooke and Mary Grace.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Noland Brummett.

A visitation has been scheduled for Friday, August 16, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Kentucky. Funeral is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Kentucky with Rev. Brad King officiating the service. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Greer, Doug Gooch, Troy Hamm, Herner Burton, Tommy Moser, Art Foster, Dr. Emery A. Wilson and Gary Reynolds.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Vernon Douglas, Jerome Flynn, Jeff Jeffries, Ronald Lawrence, Tommy Owens, James Atkins, John Stevens, Jerry Pyle, Donald Thomas, Ella Mae Curlis, Mary Jo Morrow, Nancy Boone, Dorothy Greer, Tracy Gooch, Betty D. Sims, Carolyn Spangler, Danny Spangler, Gwyneth Pyle, Lauren Newman, Kent Mann and Norman Lawrence.

Memorials in Lieu of Flowers may be donated to the Lincoln County Educational Fund.
