Stop in to see us on Fourth Street — yes, we’re still here
After 153 years, The Advocate-Messenger is still right here in Danville, with the critical mission of informing our community.
In fact, The Advocate is reaching more people than ever in the newspaper’s storied history; in today’s age of “fake” news and misinformation that could arguably be considered more important than ever.
The ways we reach readers continues to expand, even as the need for a massive brick-and-mortar structure has diminished. Barely a week goes by that someone doesn’t tell us they thought we had moved.
Nope, we are right here at 330 S. Fourth St., where we have been for decades. We try to drive this message home.
It is a confluence of factors, locally and national, that feed this misconception about the demise of the newspaper industry.
Certainly, we face a host of challenges as the business model continues to evolve and change. Many other businesses do as well, but those stories don’t seem to garner the same volume of headlines.
Much of the doom and gloom tied to our industry stems from the hurdles faced by larger metropolitan newspapers that compete with cable news channels.
We couldn’t be more different.
One of the biggest factors confusing people about The Advocate are the two large “For Lease” signs along the side and on the front of the building.
We sold the building a couple of years ago because it was simply more space than we needed. We had no interest in being in the real estate development business, instead focusing our time, energy and resources on producing the best community newspaper possible.
We didn’t move and have no plans to do so. We leased back the space we needed now that a much smaller footprint is required. We hope to soon welcome a new business to share our building with. Stay tuned for more information on that.
Will we always be in this building? Who knows? The newspaper has moved in the past and may do so at some point in the future.
What we can guarantee is that we will always make decisions about our location — and everything else — through the lens of what best serves our readers and best equips us to achieve our mission of being the best community newspaper in Kentucky.
So, stop in and see us. Give us a call. Tell your friends and neighbors. The Advocate-Messenger is still here and going strong.
