Press release

On Thursday, August 2, Kiwanis Club of Danville continued its long-standing tradition of donating school supplies to area schools and organizations. Weeks of strategic shopping for backpacks, pencils, notebooks and many other items from the supply lists of Edna Toliver Elementary School fifth grade, Sunrise Children’s Services for on-campus students and The Salvation Army After School Program culminated into Thursday’s presentation.

Jane Sanders of Edna Toliver Elementary School, Danielle Von of Sunrise Children’s Services and Lt. Lindsey Galabeas of The Salvation Army (along with some children who attend the after school program) were invited to attend a luncheon meeting to enjoy fellowship with Kiwanis club members and to receive the supplies.

All in attendance would agree that it was very heartwarming to enter the room and observe the tables filled with colorful kid-friendly backpacks and much-needed supplies with which to fill them. The positive energy in the room illustrated the excitement and promise of a new school year that every child deserves.

Danville Kiwanis Club leaders recognized a need in the community several years ago and the club has offered support for Back to School preparedness over the last decade. In the spirit of the Kiwanis Mission to “empower communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children”, Kiwanis Club of Danville has worked diligently to do just that over the last 92 years.

President Robert Cunningham said “our club members are involved in the community in many capacities through their professional, church and various non-profit affiliations and that really helps our club to stay apprised of the needs that exist throughout the year. Offering our support in preparing for back-to-school helps to ease the financial burden for many families and also helps to ensure that our students have the tools they need for the best possible start to a successful school year.”
