Support bike lanes in downtown Danville

At this juncture of city planning we must decide whether it is likable to have a bikeable Boyle County. I’m a bike liker and hope to make converts.

Having more bikers means less traffic congestion, less pollution, less noise and better community health. My parents biked to work their whole careers. That contributed to their long, full lives, and my mother continues to bike at the age of 88.

The world’s billions of bikers like to travel to places where they can ride. I have chosen vacation destinations in Michigan, Colorado and Ohio because of their biking opportunities. And when tourists visit to bike, they bring dollars to spend in shops, restaurants, gas stations, and hotels.

Boyle’s gains from bike lanes would be larger still because they would connect our growing but disjointed community-wide network of bike trails.

Beyond the five benefits I’ve mentioned, added bike lanes would bring more opportunities for good, clean fun. Please support a bikeable Boyle. Send comments on bike lanes to Matt Simpson, Project Manager for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, at matt.simpson@ky.gov by Thursday, Sept. 12.
