A 46-year-old Danville man died from a crossbow bolt wound Monday morning, according to Danville police.
Assistant Police Chief Glenn Doan said at 10:15 a.m., the police department responded to Hartland Drive regarding a male subject with a crossbow bolt wound to the upper torso.
Jimmy J. Smith, of Danville, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Doan said a death investigation is being conducted, but no foul play is suspected at this time.
He said investigators believe Smith was target-shooting in the backyard when the bolt was accidentally discharged, fatally striking him in the torso.
Doan said the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Danville City Fire and the Boyle County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
