The city of Perryville is getting ready for company and is asking volunteers to help spruce up downtown before they arrive.
From 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29, the public is asked join Main Street Perryville and city officials to clean around many of the buildings along Merchant’s Row in preparation of the annual Battle of Perryville Commemoration being held Oct. 4-5; and for the Kentucky Tour120 on Oct. 6.
“We want to put our best face forward,” said MSP executive director Vicki Goode. And getting the public to help with the endeavor shows that they care about their community, she added.
People are asked to meet at the Karrick Parks House, 207 South Buell St., each day. They may also bring lawn equipment such as rakes, clippers, shovels, weed eaters and blowers and work gloves, Goode said.
Hot dogs, tenderloin sandwiches, chips and drinks will be provided to all the workers at the end of each work day.
Some of the work to be done includes weeding and cleaning up debris from areas around the Karrick Parks and Bath House, Dr. Polk House, Baril Park, Johnson Britton House and along Smith Street. Volunteers are also needed for cleaning and rearranging inside the Karrick Parks House and continuing construction of the Bath House.
