News release

Oct. 28 was National First Responders Day and in appreciation of the work they do each day, Gifted & Talented Leadership students at Boyle County Middle School led a collection drive for snacks to distribute to those responders in the Danville community.

They asked everyone at Boyle County Middle School to bring in sweet and salty snacks and drinks, then arranged them in baskets. They didn’t forget the K-9 units either, as people brought in treats for the dogs as well. Once the baskets were assembled, a representative group of students delivered them to the Danville Fire Stations, Danville Police Department and 911

center, Boyle County EMS, and the Boyle County Sheriff’s office. They also delivered treats to Boyle County Schools School Resource Officers.

“We are developing a leadership mindset in these students,” commented Mary Jane Hall, Boyle County Schools Gifted and Talented District Coordinator. “They are looking for ways to not only serve their school and classmates, but the community as well.”

The idea of the project came about through a discussion of 9/11, and the students thought this would be a great way to honor those who take care of our community.

The Gifted & Talented Leadership students are: Jaimen Carey, Mahalia Combs, Ethan Drake, Max Germann, Nancy Haddad, Samuel Harless, Emery Larson, Katie Qualls, Alex Smith, Keenan Stewart, Coleman Stewart, Caleb Sutton, Annabelle Tarter, Emily Warriner, Allie Grubb, Bo Little, Havannah Maddox, Kate Peterson, Olivia Toon, Alex Toth, Samuel Wade, Beau Bostick, Cooper Costello, Shelby Frondal and Zackary Hayes.

They are a mix of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Boyle County Middle School.
