Back as always, the Old Fashioned Country Christmas at Forkland Community Center returns this year, planned for Saturday, Dec. 7. Reservations are now being taken.

Those who partake will enjoy a traditional home-cooked holiday dinner amidst beautiful, old-fashioned decorations.

This year’s menu includes sliced country ham, hand-carved roasted turkey, giblet gravy and dressing and all the fixings, including corn pudding, candy yams and baked oyster casserole, to name a few.

Pat Williams, one of the organizers, says that at 6:15 p.m., “there is a social hour in the beautifully decorated brick building. You will be served hot punch and have time to visit the Forkland Lincoln Museum.” Williams says she hopes many will shop for holiday presents at the gift shop.

“And we will have a special Christmas Gift Shop, featuring delicious homemade breads and treats from Sandy Hogue and Lynda Russell.”

There will be live Christmas piano music and caroling by children.

The dinner begins at 7 p.m. in the gym that Williams says will be transformed with Christmas decorations and lights.

The dinner is $25 per person and requires reservations. To reserve, email dmpbarker@hotmail.com, or call (859) 583-2582 or (859) 332-7839.

Also coming up is the center’s Twilight Christmas event on Saturday, Dec. 14. It will feature a holiday open house with light snacks, with the same gift shops open and all the decor, plus holiday crafts and Santa for the kids.

Williams says, “Twilight includes all kinds of delicious Christmas snacks. The children will have special crafts to make and we will have live Christmas music by a local singer, in addition to the beautiful decorations both inside and out.”
