According to police, Melanie L. Hamilton, 49, faces one count of first-degree wanton endangerment following the incident, which occurred at around 2:15 p.m. on North Street.

Police were called to the scene for a report of a stabbing; when they arrived, they found Larry Bruce, 56, with “a stab wound to the abdomen region,” according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.

“A female was walking away from the scene towards South Second Street,” according to the release. “She was quickly identified as the suspect and detained pending further investigation. Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that (Hamilton) stabbed Bruce as the two were wrestling inside of the residence.”

Bruce was treated by Boyle County EMS personnel at the scene and taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for “further treatment,” according to police; the extent of Bruce’s injuries was not available Monday evening.

Hamilton was being held in the Boyle County Detention Center Monday night; her bond was pending pre-trial assessment.

Officer Casey Whittle and Danville detectives are handling the case.
