Boyle schools cancel classes due to illness

Due to widespread illness, all Boyle County schools will be closed tomorrow, (Friday, Jan. 31) and Monday, Feb. 3.
Attendance had been declining all week. Thursday’s attendance across the schools was about 90% said Director of Communications Jacquie Peterson. School officials predicted that attendance would continue dropping if this measure hadn’t been taken, she said.
Having two extra days out of school will help stop the spread of germs and give the staff and students time to recover, she added.
No extracurricular activities, athletic events, etc. are cancelled, Peterson said. However, school officials do ask parents to keep their children home from these activities if they are showing any symptoms of illness, even if they have not yet been diagnosed with anything.
As a result of school closing, Monday, March 9, now will be an instructional day and the last day of school will be Friday, May 22.
