Gladys Hurst Cunningham

1932-2020

Gladys Hurst Cunningham, 87, of Danville, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, George Cunningham. Gladys was born on June 6, 1932 in Lincoln County to the late Lincoln and Ida Naylor Hurst.

Gladys worked at the local unemployment office and at Centre College for many years. She co-owned Durham Hardware / Ace Hardware. Gladys was a persistent caregiver as she took great care of her husband, two sons, and her many friends. 

She enjoyed playing bridge and was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Gladys is survived by a son, James H. Cunningham, his wife Gina of Lexington; five grandchildren, Chase Cunningham, his wife Rhonda, Leslie Cunningham, Carley Cunningham, Ryan Craft and Haley Craft; two great grandchildren, Aviana Cunningham and Ainsley Cunningham; and one sister, JoAnn Rudd of Palm Coast Florida. Gladys was preceded in death by a son, G. Joe Cunningham; two brothers, Bobby Hurst and Ray Hurst; and a sister, Lavern Smith Fox. 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Danville with Dr. Quentin Scholtz and Rev. Chris Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the church. Pallbearers will be Scott Young, Ronnie Smith, David Hurst, Chase Cunningham, David Logue, Harry Nickens and Ted Baker. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Burnley, Betty Baker, Bill Shaver, Tom Ellis, Mary Ann Burke, Martha Bryant, Rebecca Scholtz, George and Margaret Scott, Bud Trainer, Butch Taylor, Billy Mills and Lou Walker.
