The city of Danville began an initiative in April to supply green light bulbs to local residents and businesses as Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear encouraged people to light their homes and businesses green in support of the victims of COVID-19.

As part of that initiative, the city asked for donations from those who picked up the light bulbs with the funds going toward local non-profit organizations on the frontlines of the pandemic.

On Monday, the city presented $10,650 that was donated through the program to seven local organizations with each city commissioner choosing one or more organizations to provide funds to.

Commissioner J.H. Atkins presented $2,130 to the Jennie Carol Backpack for Kids program, Denise Terry presented $1,065 each to the food service programs for Danville and Boyle County Schools, Rick Serres presented $1,065 each to CASA and Nursing Home Ombudsman, and Kevin Caudill presented $2,130 to Shepherd’s House.

Several green light bulbs remain at city hall, and if anyone is interested in obtaining one or several, they can stop by city hall during normal business hours or call city hall at 859-238-1200.
