In 2020 the Boyle County Public Library joined Beanstack — a fun virtual way to participate in reading challenges. To kick off 2021, the library invites patrons to jump start their New Year’s reading resolution by participating in its Winter Reading Challenge, available through Beanstack.
The BCPL reading challenge will run throughout the month of January. Participants are challenged to read at least five days for 20 minutes per day. Weekly prize drawings will be based on reading. The more days a patron reads, the better their odds of winning. Prizes include books and gift cards to local businesses such as The Hub, Burke’s Bakery, Bluegrass and Buttercream, Sweets by Cindy, Windjammer Fun Center, Danville Cinemas 8, Art Center of the Bluegrass, The Farmhouse Restaurant, Salted Honey Cafe, and Danville Bowlarama.
The BCPL reading challenge is part of the Fourth Annual Beanstack Winter Reading Challenge, which is offered in partnership with Simon & Schuster. Simon & Schuster’s “Books Like Us” program will sponsor the nationwide Beanstack challenge, which supports public libraries and school systems throughout the United States.
Simon & Schuster’s “Books Like Us” is a celebration of diversity, harnessing the transformative power of seeing oneself reflected in a book. This winter, participating communities are invited to explore books from bestselling and acclaimed authors including Cozbi Cabrera, Sharon Draper, Stuart Gibbs, Stephen Graham Jones, Hena Khan, Debbie Ohi, Christina Hammonds Reed and Rebecca Roanhorse.
“What better way to start off the New Year than by diving into a good book? Simon & Schuster’s ‘Books Like Us’ is delighted to sponsor Winter Reading 2021, which encourages readers of all ages and interests to see themselves in a good story,” said Michelle Leo, VP, Director of Education & Library Marketing for Simon & Schuster.
Challenge participants will be able to read any books they like during the challenge, and will be provided with recommendations from Simon & Schuster’s featured authors along the way.
Registering to participate is simple. Go to boylepublib.beanstack.org to register for the Winter Reading Challenge. Then complete the reading challenge for a chance to win. Participation is free.
