Alitha H. Brown, age 99, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed peacefully early Friday morning, January 15, 2021, in Danville, Kentucky. Born Monday, November 14, 1921 in the Mount Olive Community of Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Johnny J. & Bertha Wall Hamilton. Mrs. Brown was the widow of the late Charles E. Brown, whom she married Saturday, November 15, 1952, and who preceded her in death Friday, December 6, 1991. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Eubank High School, Campbellsville College, and a 1945 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. Mrs. Brown was a 50-year dedicated teacher, teaching at a one-room school house in Casey County for 6 years, teaching at Highland Elementary for 11 years, and teaching at Stanford Elementary for 33 years. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and a member of Lexington Avenue Church of Christ in Danville. Mrs. Brown leaves behind “Wawa’s special girl”, cousin and caregiver, Lisa Stone of Danville; nephew and nieces, Gary Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Connie Smith (Michael Strutz) of Hague, New York, and Janet Davis of Franklin, Tennessee; and several cousins and other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Hamilton Smith; and one niece, Linda Ottley. A Public Visitation will be held 11AM-2PM Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Fox & Friend Funeral Home. The Public Funeral Service will begin at 2:00PM Thursday at the funeral home. Wayne Thurman & Bro. Jonathan Grizzell will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Happy Fox, Jimmy Estridge, Bradley McLaren, Farris Marcum, Gary Fitzgerald, Dennis Davis, Joe Martin, and Troy Coleman will serve as Active Pallbearers. Peggy Wilder Nunemaker (cousin), Joan Von Gruenigen Smith, Kitty Fox, Chestine Wall, Wanda Barrett, and former co-teachers, educators, and principals of Stanford Elementary and the Lincoln County School District will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. PLEASE NOTE: Due to current COVID -19 regulations, face coverings must be worn by all in attendance for the Public Visitation, Funeral Service, and Graveside Service; and social distancing guidelines must be followed.
