The annual Forkland Bike Ride was held on Sunday, Feb. 7 for local bike riders, even thought the temperature was about 30 degrees with wind between 7-10 mph.
The ride is a gathering of bicycle enthusiasts that has been held almost every year for about the last 20 years. Local attorney Mark Morgan started it years ago as a very tough run. Then Ernst Crown-Webber, of Danville Bike and Footwear, changed it to a bike ride around 1998. Temps were around 30 deg F with winds 7-10 MPH. The course started and finished at the Forkland Community Center. The 27-mile course took the bicyclists past the Central KY Wildlife Refuge and over Sand and Burnt Cabin knobs. “Patches of snow were on the course around Maxey Valley which made the ride challenging but the narrow road bike tires kept us from falling,” said Dan Wells.
