1934 – 2021
Dr. Harold G. Hunter, 86, born on October 8, 1934, entered his eternal rest and was reunited with his sweetheart on March 12, 2021. A retired United Methodist Church pastor, Harold devoted his life to his family and members of each of the many churches he served from Moreland, to Loyall, Cumberland, Irvine, Ashland, Shelbyville, Danville, and to Ashland as District Superintendent, and finished his service of ministry at his home church Epworth UMC in Lexington where he began. He was a daily reader of the Bible; a woodworker; and baker of his annual Christmas jam cakes. He loved volunteering in his retirement as a Sunday school teacher and worship leader at various churches. He was a patriarch of strong beliefs, unwavering faith and deep love for his family. Dr. Hunter was also an avid Wildcat fan. Left to cherish his memory and carry his legacy are two sons, Michael (Carla) and John (Traci); beloved grandchildren, Adam Hunter, Chana (Ben) Goodin, Katie Hunter, John Hunter, Jr., Jacqueline (Michael) Rakoczy, Annie (Corey) Jones, Corrie Hunter, and Ellie Hunter; and he was delighted to welcome a great grandson, Ford Allen Jones; a brother, Wayne also survives. He was reunited in death with his beloved wife Marjo; son, David; siblings, Donald, Doris, and Russell. Harold will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched as a pastor and friend. Services will be 12:30 PM Thursday, March 18, at Kerr Brothers – Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY with Rev. Lowell and Rev. Bob Ockerman officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday and 11:30-12:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Church Women of the Kentucky Conference.
