Mr. Rodney Lewis Dunn, 68, a resident of Danville, KY was called by God to his eternal rest after a rich and fulfilling life on Thursday, April 29, 2021. He was born on October 28, 1952 to the late Cecil and Frances Dunn in Lancaster, KY. Rodney professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church, Lancaster, KY. Rodney was a 1970 graduate of Garrard County High School, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for basketball and excelled in academics, basketball, football and cross-country. He attended Transylvania University in Lexington, KY where he played basketball for four years under Coach Don Lane. After several years of service, he retired from Federal Signal. Rodney was married to Phyllis (Houston) Dunn on June 24, 1976, and through this 45 year union, they shared many joys of not only raising their three wonderful children but were very instrumental in the lives of all of their grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other youth who affectionately referred to him as Uncle Hardy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cecile Frances Dunn Clay; sister-in-law, Linda Taylor and brothers-in law, Joe Michael Houston and Steve Houston. Coach Dunn coached girls and boys basketball at all levels, including coaching his children through high school. This included mentoring several local youth in the Danville-Boyle County community. He was an avid UK basketball fan and enjoyed attending the Indiana Pacers games with his daughter. Rodney was the happiest when spending time with his family, especially his children whom he loved and adored. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Dunn, Danville, KY; two daughters, Frances Brooke Dunn, Orlando, FL and Felicia Gay Ford, Lexington, KY; a son, Rodney Phillip Dunn, Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, D’Yantae (Miranda) Logan, Fort Drum, NY, Asianna Ford and Mila Hernandez, Lexington, KY; one sister, Delores Dunn, Lexington, KY; three brothers, Ernest (Michelle) Dunn, Wilber Dunn (Collette Thurman), Danville, KY and Terry Dunn (Tammy Sears), Lancaster, KY; brothers-in-law, Tracy Houston, Robert (Kathy) Houston, Larry (Linda – deceased) Taylor, Danville, KY; two aunts, Elizabeth Dabney, Lexington, KY and Helen Langford, Kansas City, MO; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends including a special friend and college teammate Everett (Harriet) Bass, Houston, TX. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at St. James AME Church in Danville. Burial followed at Hilldale Cemetery. www.preston-pruitt.com
