Library offers virtual tour of Toledo Zoo, pet photo sessions, and other fun activities

Throughout the summer, the Boyle County Public Library offers fun, free events and activities for its patrons to participate in. Weekly events include virtual and in-person storytimes, ukulele lessons, Yoga for Kids, and more.
In addition to the numerous virtual and hands-on activities, patrons of all ages are invited to take part in the Summer Reading challenge. People who read books or listen to audiobooks for 10 days will earn a free prize book plus tickets to put toward a prize drawing for any of the many prize bundles the library is offering this summer.
Prize bundles are on display in the library lobby. Information on how to register to participate is available at the library and online at BoylePubLib.org/SummerReading. Here is a closer look at some of the library’s upcoming activities:
• Professional Pet Photo Sessions
Make an appointment for your pet to have a photo session. The library will host Professional Pet Photo Sessions on Saturday, June 19. Professional photographer Laura Stanley of Laura B Photography will be on hand to capture images of your beautiful pet.
Each creature will be photographed and receive two professionally edited images. Sessions will last for 15-minutes. Online registration is required and a limited number of spaces are available. Appointments will be held throughout the day in the Reading Garden at the library. (In the event of rain, photo sessions will be moved inside the library.) • Virtual Adult Trivia Night
On Saturday, June 19 at 7 p.m. the library will host a trivia night for adults. Hosted via Zoom, participants can enjoy friendly, social competition from the comfort of home at this interactive event. Trivia questions will be selected from a large variety of topics to give everyone a chance to feel like the smartest person in the room.
There will be three timed rounds with short breaks in-between, if needed. Participants will be divided into teams upon arrival, but team requests can be made as well. Anyone interested in participating can join the event via the Zoom link in the event listing on the library’s website. This program is recommended for ages 18 and up.
• Humane Society at the Library
On Tuesday, June 22 from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. the Boyle County Humane Society will bring kittens to the library for Adopt-a-Cat month. The community is invited to stop by and visit with the animals. Information about pet adoption will be available.
• How to Create
This video series will teach you how to create art with a variety of mediums. On June 22, stop by the library to pick up a kit that contains everything you will need to learn how to paint with acrylics, then watch the instructional video when you are ready to paint. (Ages 9-18)
• Made from Scratch: Dog Treats
In this video tutorial, Alethea Bruzek from the Boyle County Extension Office will teach you how to make dog treats from scratch. Pick up a kit at the library or the Extension Office beginning Tuesday, June 22 at 10 a.m.
• Tails & Tales Tour of the Toledo Zoo
On Thursday, June 24 at 1 and 6 p.m., patrons are invited to tour the Toledo Zoo from the comfort of home at this live virtual event. During the visit you will see animals featured in famous stories.
Guests will work together to create an amazing animal story at this interactive event. A zoo educator will share views of live animals up close in their exhibits. Registration required. To register to attend one of the two sessions, go to BoylePubLib.org and click on the event listing.
• DIY Friday
Patrons are invited to learn basic and advanced do-it-yourself skills from a DIY veteran. This month the topic will be “Dutch Oven Cooking over an Open Fire.” The video will premiere on the library’s YouTube channel on Friday, June 25 at 5 p.m.
• Virtual Field Trip: Perryville Battlefield
In this virtual field trip, Bryan Bush will tell us the story of Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site. You will learn in-depth details about the battle and how it still affects the area almost 160 years later. This video will premiere on Saturday, June 26 at noon.
