Julia “Judy” Dell Brown Smith, 75, of Moreland, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born in Stanford on June 29, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Brown and Gloria Kirkpatrick Brown.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stephen Dale Smith; 2 sons, Stephen Arthur Smith of Moreland and Nathan Ashley Smith of Danville; and several other close family members. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Jo Bottoms, and 2 brothers, Anthony Brown and Bernard Brown. Judy was a faithful member of Moreland Christian Church for over 50 years.

She served in various capacities including song leader and teaching the Toddler Sunday School class for over 40 years where she became like a grandmother to hundreds.

Also, over 15 years ago, Judy and her close friend, Nancy Kelley, began the Senior Women’s Group at church. Judy worked in insurance at Cornelius-McGuffey Insurance for many years and ended her working career in data management for pharmaceutical research and development.

A funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Moreland Christian Church by Rev. David Smith with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Eric Bottoms, Chris Brown, Jay Jackson, Ethan Smith, Kevin Simpkins, and Gary Griffin.
