Art Center to have Van Gogh event
Welcome to Go Van Gogh!…an afternoon of games, challenges and fun in support of the Art Center of the Bluegrass, Saturday, Sept. 25, 1-5 p.m. This imaginary narrative will have teams of four follow Vincent Van Gogh from Constitution Square to Centre College and back again with many stops and adventures along the way. Teams earn points by participating in activities, searching for public art installations and locating the great man himself.
This is the premier event conceived of by the Board of the Art Center of the Bluegrass to engage the community in the Art Center’s mission — connecting people to art, culture and creativity. Players will appreciate becoming immersed in iconic aspects of Van Gogh’s world.
Teams will find themselves in a field of sunflowers, entertaining Van Gogh’s guests, re-imagining his letters, and, if successful, preventing the theft of the newly acquired masterpiece. As the teams go from one challenge to the next, they will have to use their imagination and work strategically to earn their points by using their sense of sight, sound and even taste. A good aim and sense of coordination will come in handy too.
This is an outdoor event. This is not a race, but time is limited. Vincent will invite you to participate in various challenges that will move you through the afternoon at random. Other decisions about your route will be yours alone and if you run into the artist himself it will be worth your while to stop and speak with him.
All participants receive a swag bag filled with gifts and coupons from our sponsors, participating partners and local businesses. The winning team will win the grand prize valued at more than $300.
The Art Center of the Bluegrass will also be debuting their new outdoor event space for the arty-party and award presentation that follows. Enjoy refreshments, beverages, music and more surprises with your opponents and partners as we Go Van Gogh! The public is invited to the afterparty, which begins at 5 p.m., and includes food trucks, beer and wine for sale.
