Grace Mbugua committed to Liberty University on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021. She received a full scholarship to play basketball when she graduates in 2025 from Danville Christian Academy. Liberty University is a Division 1 university located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
As she made her announcement, Mbugua thanked those who have helped her reach this goal.
“Good morning everyone, my name is Grace Mbugua. I want to thank you all for joining me today. I want to first and foremost thank God for this tremendous blessing. I also want to thank my parents Dennys and Beatrice Mbugua for all the sacrifice and hard work and love that has molded me into the person I am today.
“I want to thank my two sisters, Esther and Ruth, for all their love and support. I want to thank my DCA family who has loved me from the beginning. I want to thank my coaches and teammates. I would not be the player I am today without them. I also want to thank all the colleges that have recruited me. In the end I wanted to go to a top Division 1 college and I also wanted a Christ-centered environment. When I went to Liberty I could feel the wonderful spirit there and I knew that was where I wanted to be. So today I want to announce that Liberty University has offered me a full-ride scholarship, and I am committing to Liberty University.
“I want to thank coach Green, coach Alexis, coach Andy, coach Katie, and all the Liberty coaching staff for all the faith they have in me, and I am excited to work every day to become the best player I can be. I look forward to joining Liberty, which is an amazing Christ-centered university, and sharing my God-given skills with them, finding new friends and family, and having an amazing experience. Liberty’s motto is Training Champions for Christ, and I pray that God will allow me to be a champion for him. Thank you all for being here, God bless you.”
