Heart of Danville

Heart of Danville Main Street program and the city of Danville are working together to provide up to  $5,000 in grants to preserve and enhance downtown building facades. Applications open in  September, are due in October, and results will be announced in November. More information is  available at downtowndanville.com and the Heart of Danville KY’s Facebook page.

In the spirit of preservation and revitalization, Heart of Danville Main Street Program and the city of  Danville have combined forces to procure funding for facade improvements. Downtown buildings  stand to benefit from a wide range of projects. For example, reviving transom windows or updating a  faded paint job are both within the scope of this grant. Past work has included replacing awnings  and uncovering expansive columns.

Building owners and businesses within the historic downtown service area are encouraged to apply  and proposals will need to include a budget and drawings of the improvements. Proposed changes  must also adhere to local and state design guidelines, including approval of the Danville  Architectural Heritage Board. The Heart of Danville will assist with resources and information.

In addition to the facade improvement project, Heart of Danville is also hosting a Preservation  Workshop on historic tax credits. The historic credit program is designed to promote preservation  and economic development by making it financially feasible to undertake rehabilitation of historic  buildings. This free event will take place Oct. 12 and feature a presentation by historic  preservation specialists and a second presentation on architectural success stories in Kentucky.  Reservations and more information can be found on the Heart of Danville website and facebook  page.
