The Boyle County Public Library offers numerous free activities for patrons of all ages, including a Winter Wonderland display that includes a festive backdrop for holiday photos. The library is currently hosting Dinosaur Discovery, an exhibit featuring over 120 fossils and castings from Dr. John Hankla’s curated collection. More information about the exhibit can be found at BoylePubLib.org/Dinosaurs. In addition to the exhibit, library patrons can also enjoy interactive activities including crafting projects, weekly storytimes, and special holiday events. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Game On!
Teens are invited to play video games at the library on Fridays from 4:00-5:20 PM. Battle with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event will be held on 5th Level of the library. Masks are recommended. (Ages 13-18)

Pictures with Santa
Attention all children, parents, and Christmas elves – big and small – Santa is coming to downtown Danville! On Saturday, December 4 from 2:00-4:00 PM, Santa will be visiting the Boyle County Public Library in hopes of meeting all the good children as well as posing for a photo. Bring a camera so you can photograph your visit. TICKETS for timed entry are REQUIRED and LIMITED, but FREE! Pick up tickets starting at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 4. Santa can only see you during your ticketed time slot so he can hear from everyone safely. This program is provided in partnership with the Heart of Danville. (All ages)

Teen D&D
On Saturday, December 4 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. At this in-person event, players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Go to www.boylepublib.org/teendnd to register. Masks are recommended. (Ages 13-18)

Murder Mystery: “He Had It Coming”
On Monday, December 6 at 6:00 PM, the library will host “He Had It Coming,” a murder mystery event written and directed by Lyndsi Hersch. Victor Byrd is well known in the town of Mayflower as a busy-body, a domineering figure, and a bit of a cad. With his hands stirring every pot, his foot in every door, and his wiles spurning the local ladies, it is shocking (but perhaps not surprising) when he turns up dead. With so many potential suspects, the local police need help piecing the clues together. Playing the role of detectives, you will review a crime scene and interview live suspects to gather evidence as you attempt to solve the murder. (Ages 13+)

“Memories Worth Remembering” Writing Workshop
This month, the library will host a “Memories Worth Remembering” writing workshop. Beginning on Tuesday, December 7 at 5:30 PM, this four-part series will offer an opportunity to discuss ideas, receive feedback, and learn how to write about your recollections. If you have a favorite memory you would like to share or at least write down for the future, this is the workshop for you. Participants will have the opportunity for their written recollections to be included in a small, published chapbook. Additional sessions in this series will be held on December 9, 14, and 16 in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 18+)

Crafting for Keeps
At this program series you will be guided through the process of making a craft that you get to keep. On Tuesday, December 7 at 6:00 PM we will be making Winter Luminaries, a lovely piece of seasonal décor for your home. This event will be held in the Community Room. Masks are recommended. Extra supplies will be made into kits that will be available in the library lobby while supplies last. (Ages 18+)

Board Games Club for Adults
The library will pull out its collection of board games on Saturday, December 11 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Adults are encouraged to bring a friend and try out some new games or play old favorites. The library has games for all levels of players and staff eager to show you how to play. This after-hours event will be held in the Community Room at the library. Masks are recommended. (Ages 18+)

BOOK CLUBS for Tweens, Teens, and Adults

Third Thursday AM Book Club
In December the book club will be reading The Last Juror by John Grisham. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk. The book discussion will be held on Thursday, December 16 at 10:30 AM. Masks are recommended. (Ages 18+)

Teen LibCrates
The December/January Teen LibCrate is available at the library, while supplies last. This month each crate includes two free books and other goodies. The books are The Darkest Minds and Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken. An in-person discussion will be held on January 18, 2022. (Ages 13-18)

Tween LibCrates
In December and January, we’ll have one Tween LibCrate with two books inside. The books are Twinchantment and the sequel Untwisted by Elise Allen, a fantasy duology series. Each crate will include two free books, craft, snack, and prize. Join us the in-person wrap-up discussion on January 27, 2022. (Ages 9-13)
