Danville Police were called to a residence located at 179 Hartland Drive around 7:40 p.m. Thursday evening after receiving a call from social services to check the welfare of a 5-month-old child. The child was crying and her mother was believed to possibly be heavily intoxicated.

Officers arrived and were able to see more than one person inside the residence. Moments later the occupants turned off the lights, closed the curtains, and refused to answer the door. After several attempts to gain compliance to open the door, an officer saw a female jump from the back window and flee on foot through a field.

Officers gave chase while other responding police units set up a perimeter and went to the residence to check on the child. With assistance from the Danville Fire Department, officers forced entry into the home and found the 5-month-old child with a 16-year-old juvenile who was also trying to avoid the police.

The female who fled from the residence was the mother of the child, and was determined to be Cari Hensley, 41, of Danville. She was located a short time later at a nearby residence and taken into custody. The 16-year-old juvenile was also arrested. The 5-month-old child was seen by Boyle County EMS and taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for a welfare observation. Social services responded and assisted police with the investigation. The child was later released to a family member.

The 16-year-old juvenile was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. He was taken to the Danville Police Department and released to his guardian.

Hensley was lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center and charged with abandonment of a minor; fleeing or evading police 1st degree (on foot); disorderly conduct 2nd degree; unlawful transaction with a minor 3rd degree; resisting arrest, and alcohol intoxication in public.
