Library to host Valentine crafts, book clubs, and readings from local writers

The Boyle County Public Library offers numerous free activities for patrons of all ages. The library is currently hosting Dinosaur Discovery, an exhibit featuring over 120 fossils and castings from Dr. John Hankla’s curated collection. Stop by to explore the free exhibit, which will remain on display through mid-March. Virtual tours and interactive school visits are also available. Anyone interested in arranging a guided group tour of the exhibit should contact the library’s Youth Services department. In addition to the exhibit, library patrons can also enjoy interactive activities such as crafting projects, games, and weekly storytimes. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Crafters Who Care
On Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, join us in knitting and crocheting items for those in need. This knitting and crochet group welcomes current and new members to weekly crafting meetups at the library. Some materials provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will be held in the Reading Room. Masks are required. (Ages 13+)

Game On!
Teens are invited to play video games at the library on Fridays from 4:00-5:20 PM. Battle with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event will be held on 5th Level of the library. Masks are required. (Ages 13-18)

Preschool Storytime
Join Ms. Libby for weekly storytime on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 AM in the Youth Program Room. Each week we will read stories and have a craft kit available for pick up, while supplies last. Virtual storytime videos with ASL will be available on select weeks. Due to social distancing guidelines, seating capacity is limited. Craft kits may be picked up at in-person Storytime, on the kits table in Children’s Department, or by using the library’s Curbside Pickup service. (Call the library starting the day the kits are available to ask for a kit using curbside pickup.) Masks are required for ages 2+. (Ages 2-5)

Memories Worth Remembering: A Reading
Join us for a reading of local recollections and memories. On Tuesday, February 1 from 5:30-7:30 PM, participants in the recent Memories Worth Remembering writing workshop will share the written versions of treasured memories that have been published in a chapbook, which will be added to the library’s collection for future readers. This event will be held in the Community Room. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

Kids Valentine Crafternoon
On Saturday, February 5 from 1:00-3:00 PM, the library will host a Valentine Crafternoon for kids. Join us for an in-person program to make Valentine-themed crafts and a STEM project. There will be three tables with a project at each. Kids can attend at any point during the program time and work at their own pace, then leave with instructions on how to make more crafts at home. Masks are required. This event will be held in the Youth Program Room. Seating will be limited for social distancing. (Ages 5-8)

BOOK CLUBS for Tweens, Teens, and Adults
Third Thursday AM Book Club
In February the book club will be reading Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk, while supplies last. The book discussion will be held on Thursday, February 17 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

Teen LibCrates
Beginning on Tuesday, February 1, Teen LibCrates may be picked up at the library, while supplies last. Each crate will include a free book and other goodies. The book for this month is This is My Brain in Love by I.W. Gregorio. An in-person discussion of the book will be held on February 22 to share thoughts about the book. Masks are required. (Ages 13-18)

Tween LibCrates
Pick up your Tween LibCrate any time in February, while supplies last. The book this month is Timeless: Diego and the Rangers of the Vastlantic by Armand Baltazar. This book features full-color illustrations, steam punk, time travel, robots, dinosaurs, and much more. Each crate will include a free book, craft, snack, and prize. Join the in-person wrap-up discussion on February 28 to share your reactions and do themed activities. Masks are required. (Ages 9-13)
