District basketball match-ups set

Hours after the Boyle County boys and girls swept the final district doubleheader of the season, seeds and pairings were set for the 45th District Tournament.

The Boyle boys and the Danville girls will be the No. 1 seeds for the tournament, which opens Monday at Danville.

Boyle won a coin toss with three-time defending champion Lincoln County that assured the Rebels of the No. 1 boys seed after the two teams tied for first place in the regular-season district standings with 7-1 records.

Garrard County prevailed in a three-way tie for the No. 3 boys seed and the last of the first-round byes. The fourth and fifth seeds, Danville and DCA, will play Monday for a spot in the semifinals.

On the girls side, two-time defending champion Danville, No. 2 seed DCA and No. 3 seed Garrard are in the semifinals. Fourth seed Lincoln and fifth seed Boyle will play Monday for the remaining semifinal slot.

Luke Imfeld and Jakei Tarter combined for 15 points in an 18-2 fourth-quarter run that carried Boyle (20-6, 7-1 district) past DCA (18-10, 3-6).

The Rebels scored 12 straight points to erase the 30-26 lead the Warriors held early in the fourth quarter, and Boyle led 44-32 with 1:04 remaining at the end of the run.

Imfeld scored a game-high 18 points and Tarter had 13 points and nine rebounds for Boyle, which reached the 20-win mark for the second straight season in a game that had three ties and seven lead changes.

Xavier Yamo led DCA with 16 points and 12 rebounds; Titus Boyd added 12 points and Luai Ayiei added 10.

Kendra Christopher scored a career-high 17 points to power Boyle (11-14, 2-6) to a come-from-behind win over DCA (17-7, 5-3).

Christopher hit five of 12 3-point shots for the Lady Rebels, who trailed 17-7 in the second quarter but cut the margin to one point by halftime and nosed into the lead early in the fourth quarter.

Boyle’s Payton Bugg scored 10 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter. She hit a 3 that gave the Lady Rebels the lead for good at 37-34 and scored six points as they closed the game on an 11-2 run.

Grace Mbugua scored a game-high 22 points and blocked seven shots for DCA.
