Doris Evelyn Anderson Spurlin, 88

Doris Evelyn Anderson Spurlin, 88, of Preachersville, passed away February 28, 2022. She was born on February 2, 1934 in Lincoln County, Kentucky to the late Clarence and Nannie Mae Gooch Anderson. Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, James Alan Spurlin. While raising her three young boys, she worked as a receptionist at the old Stanford Hospital, working her way up to serving as an Administrator at Fort Logan Hospital for many years. She and James owned and operated the V&S Variety Store, True Value Hardware Store and The Apparel Shop in Lancaster and Stanford for many years. She developed Westwood Apartments in Lancaster and was instrumental in the development and operation of Spurlin Funeral Homes of Stanford, Lancaster, and Danville. She was a proud member of the Lincoln County DAR. The most important part of her life was her family, whom she dearly loved. Doris was the proud mother of her three loving sons, and then later adored being “Mamma” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are three sons, Jim Spurlin (Libby) of Lancaster, Dr. Mark Spurlin (Phyllis) of Danville and Barry Spurlin (Liz) of Preachersville, seven grandchildren, Jessica Spurlin-Graham (Adam), Mark Alan Spurlin II (Melissa), Kimberly Spurlin-Barnes (Scott), Ashley Spurlin (Justin), James David Spurlin II (Katelyn), Ethan Spurlin (Morgan) and Haley Spurlin; great grandchildren, Natalie Gifford, Colton Graham, Cooper Phillippi, Andrew Graham, Nora Gifford, Lucas Barnes, Nova Gifford, Benjamin Spurlin, Blakely Trimble and Amelia Barnes; a brother, Wayne Anderson of Boyle County. Along with her husband, James Alan, she is preceded in death by her parents, brother, David Anderson and sisters, Luanna Anderson Moody, and Irene Anderson Bailey. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, March 11, 2022 at Drakes Creek Baptist Church in Preachersville, Kentucky, where she was a lifetime member. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 5-7pm at Spurlin Funeral Home of Lancaster and Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 5-7pm at Spurlin Funeral Home of Stanford. Pallbearers will be Mark Alan, James David and Ethan Spurlin, Adam Graham, Scott Barnes, Justin Trimble, Cory Hurst, and David Abee.
