Boyle’s Martin wins state archery title; team qualifies for national tournament

Hayden Martin of Boyle County won a state championship last weekend in the high school boys division at the Kentucky National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament in Louisville.

Martin led a Boyle team that finished ninth out of 151 teams in the two-day event at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

Martin had the highest score among 8,629 boys and girls in the tournament. The sophomore scored 298 out of a possible 300 on Friday but had to wait until the competition concluded Saturday to learn whether he would remain in first place.

Wade Stallard of Boyle tied for fifth in the high school boys division with a score of 293. Raegan McGuffey of Boyle tied for sixth in the high school girls division at 290.

Boyle qualified for the NASP U.S. Eastern National Tournament, one of two NASP national tournaments, May 12-14 in Louisville along with Mercer, Garrard and Lincoln counties.
