Library to host Earth Day events; Crafting programs and interactive games scheduled

Each week the Boyle County Public Library offers free activities for the community. Library patrons can enjoy interactive activities such as crafting projects, games, and weekly storytimes. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Chess Mix

On Saturday, April 16 from 2:00-4:00 PM, visit the library and enjoy an afternoon of chess and a savory snack. This program is for all skill levels. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (All ages)

Teen D&D

On Saturday, April 16 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. At this event, players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Kentucky Tree Investigation

Local tree nurseryman Blake Cothron will give a fun and educational exploration of native Kentucky trees on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 PM. Learn fascinating facts and secrets of Kentucky trees, why they matter, and what some of their important roles are in our ecosystem. The program is free, and all participants receive free native tree saplings to plant courtesy of Peaceful Heritage Nursery. This event will be held in the Library Park. (All ages)

Crafting for Keeps

At this program series you will be guided through the process of making a craft that you get to keep. On Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 PM we will be making Wine Cork Succulent Magnets. This event will be held in the Community Room. Extra supplies will be made into kits that will be available in the library lobby while supplies last. (Ages 18+)

Third Thursday Book Club

In April the book club will be reading Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. Join the book discussion on Thursday, April 21 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

Master Builders: Cardboard Sculptures

On Thursday, April 21 at 4:00 PM, youth of all ages can use their master builder STEM skills to build art sculptures by re-using cardboard. Cardboard and art supplies will be provided to build and decorate the sculptures. All creations can be taken home by their builders. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)

Magic the Gathering

On Thursday, April 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, the library will host Magic the Gathering, a fun, fast-paced strategy card game from Wizards of the Coast. This event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 13+)

Wrecked in a Good Way: Reading and Sound Performance with Heather Henson and Elizabeth Haigh

On Thursday, April 21 at 6:00 PM, enjoy a unique evening of reading and sound to celebrate the publication of Danville author Heather Henson’s latest young adult novel, Wrecked. We’ll hear the author read an excerpt along with an original soundscape created by artist Elizabeth Haigh. Heather and Elizabeth will then talk briefly about their writing and sound design processes and answer questions. Copies of Wrecked will be available for purchase, courtesy of Plaid Elephant Books. Participants will then have the opportunity to create a soundscape of their own. Snacks will be provided. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 13+)

Crafters Who Care

On Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, join us in knitting and crocheting items for those in need. This knitting and crochet group welcomes current and new members to weekly crafting meetups at the library. Some materials provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (Ages 13+)

Document Shredding Event

On Friday, April 22 from 2:00-5:00 PM, there will be a document shredding event at the library, courtesy of FNB Investment Services. All are welcome to bring items to shred. Those needing to shred more than five boxes of materials will need to arrange a drop-off time by calling 859-238-0606. During this event, donations for local Family Resource Centers will also be accepted. Complete details are available on the library’s website. This event will be held in the Library Park. (Ages 18+)

Earth Day Celebration

Celebrate Earth Day at the library on Friday, April 22 from 3:30-5:30 PM. Make upcycled crafts to reduce and reuse waste. While working on your projects, watch a Disney Nature documentary and view the wonders of Earth and all creatures that live here. There will be something fun for everyone to enjoy as we celebrate and support protecting the Earth. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)

Game On!

Teens are invited to play video games at the library on Fridays from 4:00-5:20 PM. Battle with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event will be held on 5th Level of the library. (Ages 13-18)
